SpaceMusic is a real-time visual musical instrument. Play MIDI, audio or sensor data into it and it draws 3D forms live, like a synthesizer that makes visuals instead of sound. You can export the results for 3D printing, CNC or Rhino (docs.spacemusic.tv).
For us: SpaceMusic is the studio’s main product. Jan Henrik had the idea and designs it, Armin programs it, and Tebjan Halm works on the vvvv side. Every export goes to the Factory, where you review results and let studio PCs make new ones overnight. Developers start at Building SpaceMusic. The web services run on the Studio server.
Start here
- Try it: open ui.spacemusic.tv/lobby and sign in with the studio login.
- Use the app: The SpaceMusic App explains sign-in, sessions, sharing and updates.
- Learn it: the User Manual (every page, input, mapping and plugin; parts out of date) and the tutorials in Notion.
How to
Install SpaceMusic
- Open api.spacemusic.tv, then Applications > SpaceMusic > Releases (admins only), and download the latest installer for Windows.
- Run it and follow the prompts. It installs the Host, the Microsoft parts it needs, and the Core.
- You only do this once. After that the Host keeps itself and the Core up to date. On PCs with the SpaceMusic Worker, the Worker does the updates.
Start SpaceMusic
- Start SpaceMusic from the Start menu. The Host opens.
- Under New session, type a name, pick the UI (Mobile UI or Pro UI) and click Start session. It takes about 30 seconds.
- Details: The SpaceMusic App. On a studio PC you can also run
C:\SM\Portable\SpaceMusic.Host.exewithout installing.
Control it from a phone or browser
- In the app, click QR in the bottom bar and scan the code with the phone. Or click Copy link and send it.
- Or open ui.spacemusic.tv/lobby, sign in with the studio login and connect to your running SpaceMusic.
- Pick the UI: the Pro UI has every control, the Mobile UI is made for phones.
Make many variations overnight
- Use the Factory: New automation, pick what changes, pick Tonight.
Ask Claude about your results
- Follow Use SpaceMusic from Claude.
Run it on location
- Read Running SpaceMusic in Notion: local, on a network, in the cloud or on location.
Make patterns with Rhino
- Follow Creating patterns using SpaceMusic and Rhino. See also Origin Infinite.
